Virginia Opacki is a global business process engineering and program management professional with extensive expertise in developing, leading and executing enterprise-level strategic initiatives in the financial industry across technology and business. She has led small and large global teams in Asia, Europe, Australia and the Americas.

During her career, she has held multiple leadership positions, currently, Enterprise Data Governance Execution Manager at Bank of New York Mellon: A bank with a long history of providing solutions to the capital markets.

Virginia joined BNY Mellon in 2015 as Head of Enterprise Data Governance Execution Management reporting to the Chief Data Governance Officer for the firm. To date, a Data Management Tier-1 Policy and Governance Program has been executed firm-wide consisting of 15 lines of businesses. While in her role of execution management, a Data Governance technology platform covering Glossary, Dictionary, Lineage, Quality and Stewardship functions are in production. An enterprise-wide Data Governance Job Family and a visual communications program has been executed in support of the Organizational Change Management and Learning Center.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Virginia, a Director, worked at Barclays Capital as Head of Global Program Management & Release Management for Reference Data Technology, including Party & Account and Instrument & Price. She led global teams to establish a Program Management Office and build a release management team. She developed and executed a strategy to redesign structural systems in response to the demands of the Investment Bank both for internal, external client needs and regulators.

In 2010, Virginia joined Morgan Stanley’s Investment Management Enterprise Data Group as an Executive Director. She led dual roles of Portfolio, Program Management and CAO for the Client and Account Data team where she defined a strategy for putting all functional pieces in place to manage and measure a large portfolio of technology projects to meet front office, operational and regulatory needs.

Previously, in 2001, Virginia joined Merrill Lynch where she held several leadership positons in both Global Markets & Investment Banking and Global Wealth Management. Her first position was Department Head and Product Manager for CMxtra, an integrated technology solution for development teams. She developed a strategy to revamp all functions including development cycle, automation, marketing, training, feedback mechanism and cross-training for the team.  She grew the user base from 150 to 3000+ users in less than 3 years. She then moved to the Global Wealth Management Team where she played a dual role, Head of Program Management for Retirement Technology and again within Wealth Management, Head of Program and Testing Management as well as CAO for Client and Account Data in Reference Data.

Virginia’s financial services career began at Citigroup where she was a Process Engineering Analyst. She honed her process engineering skills providing process engineering services across the institution improving services and systems worldwide for front, back and middle offices within the Consumer Bank, Private Bank, Institutional Bank, Technology Services, Real Estate, Trading Services and Corporate Services to name a few.

Virginia attended the City University of New Jersey. She enjoys gardening, cycling, power-walking, time with her husband and 3 dogs.
