Deborah began her 10 year career at Princess Cruises in the Customer Service department supporting guests and internal customers in the areas of cruise bookings and air travel. She implemented the Air Department’s Policies and Procedures Library and redeveloped the Air Training program of proprietary software for both internal and external customers for all Carnival brands improving training efficiency and adoption of standards. Deborah’s ability to see the larger vision of a project and work with various team members to achieve success groomed her for Data Governance.
Currently, Deborah is the Senior Data Steward and Chief Data Governance expert for Holland America Group, including 4 major cruise lines, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn and P&O Australia. She oversees all aspects of the Data Governance program from vetting of initial marketplace products to the full implementation of the Collibra product for HA Group. This includes product customizations, collaborating on an IT portal for the business to interface with Data Governance, stewardship training, customizing workflows, establishing a Data Governance council with executive sponsorship and more.
On a project level, Deborah facilitates communication between the Business and IT professionals to ensure a uniform understanding and trust of data. Her current high profile projects include building a new Data Warehouse for all 4 cruise brands within the Holland America Group, consulting on data governance implementation in new technology data lakes and mapping metadata lineage from old legacy systems to new. She works closely with Executives, IT, Business Analysts and BI Reporting teams in an effort to bridge the gaps of knowledge and assure a common understanding of data. Her ongoing efforts are successfully bringing Data Governance to multiple cruise brands for the first time and establishing best practice standards for her industry.
Deborah possesses a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy and volunteers in her spare time counseling individuals, groups, couples, children and families in overcoming trauma, domestic violence, grief and loss, improved communication and parenting skills, and team building.
